Fair Use Policy
Last updated: July 2026 · Applies to content, API access, and downloaded products
This policy clarifies what constitutes acceptable use of CodeUnit's content, REST API, and purchased products. It supplements the Terms of Service and User Licence Agreement.
1. Blog and tutorial content
What you can do
- Read, share links to, and reference articles in your own writing with proper attribution
- Quote brief passages (up to 150 words) with a clear link back to the original article
- Translate articles into other languages for personal use or your own non-commercial educational blog, provided the original source is clearly credited with a link
- Use code snippets from tutorial articles in your own projects — code examples in blog posts are provided for this purpose
What you cannot do
- Reproduce full articles or substantial portions on your site, newsletter, or any other medium without written permission
- Republish articles through automated scraping or RSS re-hosting
- Present the content as your own original work
- Use articles commercially without a licence (e.g. in a paid course, e-book, or printed publication)
To request permission for uses not covered above, email admin@codeunit.dev with a brief description of how you intend to use the content.
2. REST API fair use
CodeUnit provides a public REST API at /api/ for reading portfolio data, posts, projects, and skills. This API is intended for personal integrations, portfolio widgets, and legitimate third-party applications.
Rate limits
| Endpoint type | Limit |
|---|---|
| Read endpoints (GET) | No hard limit for normal browsing and integrations |
| Contact / inquiry forms | 5 submissions per 5 minutes per IP |
| Login attempts | 10 failures per 15 minutes per IP |
| Newsletter subscribe | 3 requests per hour per IP |
Prohibited API use
- Automated crawling or bulk data extraction at a rate that strains server resources
- Scraping the API to build a competing product or index
- Using the API to send spam through contact or newsletter endpoints
- Attempting to bypass authentication, exploit endpoints, or probe for vulnerabilities
- Caching and re-serving API responses as your own data without attribution
We reserve the right to rate-limit or block IP addresses that exceed fair use thresholds, without prior notice.
3. Downloaded product fair use
Products purchased from the shop are subject to the User Licence Agreement. In addition, the following fair use principles apply:
- Use the product in a reasonable way that the Licensor would recognise as within the spirit of the purchase
- Do not attempt to decompile, reverse-engineer, or extract encrypted or minified components for use outside of the licence
- Do not use products to build tools specifically designed to circumvent payment systems, security measures, or terms of service on other platforms
- Do not use the M-Pesa integration code in ways that violate Safaricom's Daraja API terms of use
4. Branding and attribution
You may refer to CodeUnit by name and link to the website in the context of reviews, tutorials, comparisons, and general reference. You may not use the CodeUnit name or any associated branding to imply endorsement of your product or service without written consent.
5. Reporting abuse
If you notice someone misusing CodeUnit's content or API — including scraping, plagiarism, or redistribution of paid products — please report it to admin@codeunit.dev. We take intellectual property seriously and will investigate all reports.
6. Enforcement
Violation of this policy may result in:
- IP-level API blocking
- Account suspension
- DMCA takedown notices for content republished without permission
- Legal action for commercial-scale infringement
We prefer to resolve issues amicably — if you have made an honest mistake, contact us and we will work with you to fix it.
