Community Guidelines
Last updated: July 2026 · Applies to comments, messages, and all interactions on CodeUnit
CodeUnit is a place for developers, learners, and builders to read, discuss, and grow. These guidelines exist to keep that environment respectful, useful, and safe for everyone. They apply to every comment, message, and contact form submission.
1. The short version
Be helpful. Be respectful. Stay on topic. Do not post anything you would not want a professional colleague to see with your name on it.
2. What makes a great comment
Add value to the discussion
Share your experience, ask a genuine question, point out something the article missed, or describe how you solved a similar problem. Comments that help other readers are the best kind.
Be constructive, not critical
If you disagree with something in an article, explain why and what you think the correct approach is. Disagreement is welcome — rudeness is not.
Share resources thoughtfully
Linking to a relevant Stack Overflow answer, documentation page, or GitHub repo is helpful. Linking to unrelated sites or your own product without context is spam.
Ask specific questions
If you are stuck on something related to the article, describe your problem clearly — what you tried, what happened, what you expected. Specific questions get better answers.
3. What is not allowed
Harassment and personal attacks
Attacking the author or other commenters personally — including insults, threats, or targeted hostility — will result in immediate removal and a ban. Critique the idea, not the person.
Hate speech and discrimination
Content that attacks or demeans people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, nationality, or any other characteristic has no place here and will be removed without warning.
Spam and unsolicited promotion
Comments that exist only to promote a product, service, or website — especially without any relevant content — are spam. This includes AI-generated filler comments, "great post!" with a backlink, and repetitive self-promotion.
Misinformation and dangerous advice
Posting technically incorrect information as fact — especially regarding security, payments, or code that others will copy — is harmful. If you are not sure, frame it as a question or caveat it clearly.
Copyright infringement
Do not paste large portions of copyrighted text, code from proprietary sources, or content you do not have the right to share. Brief quotations with attribution are fine.
Private information
Do not share anyone else's personal information — real name, phone number, email address, location, or any other identifying information — without their explicit consent.
Illegal content
Content that promotes, facilitates, or constitutes illegal activity under Kenyan law or international law will be removed and may be reported to relevant authorities.
4. Comment moderation
All comments are reviewed before they appear publicly. This is intentional — it keeps the quality high and prevents spam from affecting other readers. It also means there may be a delay between submitting a comment and it appearing on the page.
We aim to review comments within 24 hours on working days. Comments are approved, edited for minor formatting, or declined. If your comment is declined, you will not receive a notification — it simply will not appear.
We reserve the right to:
- Edit comments for clarity, formatting, or to remove prohibited content while preserving the substance
- Decline comments that do not add value to the discussion
- Remove previously approved comments if the context changes or violations are identified later
- Ban repeat violators from commenting permanently
5. Contact and inquiry forms
Messages submitted through the contact and service inquiry forms are subject to the same standards. Abusive, threatening, or spam messages will be marked as such and not responded to. Persistent abuse may be reported to internet service providers or law enforcement.
6. Reporting a problem
If you see a comment that violates these guidelines, or if you receive an abusive message through the site, please let us know at admin@codeunit.dev with a brief description of the issue. We take all reports seriously and will act promptly.
7. Consequences
Violations of these guidelines result in action proportionate to the severity and frequency of the breach:
- First minor violation — comment declined, no further action
- Repeated minor violations — temporary ban from commenting
- Single serious violation (hate speech, harassment, illegal content) — permanent ban and account suspension
- Illegal content or threats — may be reported to relevant authorities
8. Changes to these guidelines
These guidelines may be updated as the community grows. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Significant changes will be noted in the site changelog.
